ROSARIO RODRIGUES :
By Wellington Dias.

The place Benaulim in Goa has contributed many artistes to the Konkanni stage and one of them whose contribution to the stage which merits a lot of mention is the 52-year old ROSARIO RODRIGUES. Also called as the Shakespeare of Goan theatre, he mentioned about being in the acting field for the last 32-years, starting in 1969 with "Meenaxi" followed by "Ekech Ratri" and still going strong.

Rosario Rodrigues, married with 2-kids (who are still studying), mentioned about being a lecturer by profession at his own Institute (The International Institute), that drama was just his hobby and being stuck into it, as he got a good response from the people.

He mentioned that initially he directed "Khel Tiatrs" and thereafter, switched over to non-stop dramas which he considers as his brain child and innovation, with other directors following him.

When planning to switch onto non-stop dramas, he mentioned about giving his best to his maiden venture "Fattim Pavllo", which clicked and according to him is his best, so far. He also mentioned about his introducing innovative stage settings in his dramas.

Another thing of interest that Rosario mentioned was the fierce competition between the Tiatrists and the Non-stop dramatists and feels that the tiatrists were responsible for their own downfall.

This brief interview was conducted with Rosario Rodrigues on 11th December, 2000 at Gomant Vidhya Niketan Hall after his
show "Oxim Fullam Bhavtat".
