Professor
and writer Milind Mhadgut has bagged the first prize of Rs 10,000 while poet and
journalist Sanjeev Verenkar has been placed second with a prize of Rs 5,000 in
the All India Radio Konkani play contest held recently.
Mhadgut bagged the prize for his play - Vraddhashram, while Verenkar for the
play 'Vastu Purushacho Ast
Zatnam'. The special prize of Rs 10,000 in the comedy section has been awarded
to J L Dandekar for his play
'Manav Durusti Kendra'.
Verenkar who hails from Savoi-Verem has thus far published his poetry
collections 'Bhavzumbar', and 'Mumbar', and once act play 'Mand osand Zatnam'.
All the three collections have bagged awards from Konkani Bhasha Mandal.
His programme 'Kavya Zada Zadtichem' with journalist Sitaram Naik as the anchor
person has received
accolades from one and all.
The awards will be presented at a function to be held at Delhi, shortly.

"Ani Ek Buto Phullo" staged by the Grameen Vikas Shikshan Saunstha bagged the first prize in the 25th Konkani drama competition organised by the Kala Academy, Panjim, Goa.
"Divya Divya Dipatkar" staged by Vardambika Kala Sangh-Ponda, "Marnache Saunvlet" staged by Sudarshan Kala Machi, Nauxim and "Saunskar" staged by Antruz Lalitak - Bandora, won the second, third and consolation prizes respectively.
In all, 17 plays were staged out of 18 entries received for the Silver Jubilee Konkani Drama Competition.
Dilip Desai (Divya Divya Dipatkar), Pramod Mahadeshwar (Ani Ek Buto Phullo) and Ramesh Kundaikar (Marnache Saunvlet) were adjudged first, second and third respectively for Best Direction.
Shaba Kurtarkar and Rupesh Jogle were declared best individual actors in the male category, while Gauri Kamat and Anusaya Parab bagged first and second prizes in the female section.
Merit certificates for acting have been awarded to Nanda Sawal, Shirish Naik, Vinu Desai, Dinesh Borkar, Yashodhan Jambhale, Doyel Cotta, Shashikant Borkar, Samir Date, Rupa Chari, Sandhya Morajkar, Vandana Kurtikar, Sneha Punekar and Sunanda Chari.

Halarnkar won the best prize for sets and Nilesh Mahale, the merit certificate.
Tanuja Kerkar was awarded the prize for best costumes, Ganesh Halarnkar for
light effects, Das Kavlekar for make-up, Sandeep Deshpande for background music,
while the first prize for the best script went to Prakash Vazarikar, while
Avinash Chari came a close second.
Tony Fernandes and Bushka Bringel topped decent solo singing categories at state level cantaram singing competition organised by Kala Academy. Whereas in comedy category, Christopher D'Souza has secured the first prize in the solo section.
Similarly Christopher D'souza, Stanislaus De Souza and Bruno Monteiro have been adjudged the best singers in the trio (comedy) category.
The competiton were judged by a panel of three members consisting of Fr Antonio Cotta, Irene Cardozo and Cezar D'Mello.
The other results are as follows: In Decent category (solo- male), the second prize was awarded to Santana M F Rodrigues for the song 'Pai' and the third prize to Sergio Martires for his song 'Marekar diss'. In the same category in female section, besides the first prize winner Bushka Bringel (Naka mummy naka), Sibila P J Rodrigues was recommended a special certificate for her song 'Xezari'. In the decent duet category, Sergio Martires and Ana Seraya Monteiro were given special prize.
In the male category of comedy section, besides the first prize winner, Christopher D'Souza, Francis Fernandes was awarded the second prize and Milly Cruz the third prize.In the same category, Anthony Bringel has been selected for special prize on the recommendation of the judges, being the youngest participant in the competition.
The best trio consisting of Christopher D'Souza, Stanislaus De Souza and Bruno Monteiro was selected for the first prize, whereas in comedy (quartet) category, Santana Rodrigues, Evaristo Rodrigues, Sibila Rodrigues and Brendom Rodrigues were given special prize.
The
Kala Academy has decided to award the cash prizes and certificates in a special
function being organised shortly on the day of the silver jubilee celebration of
tiatr competition of Kala Academy. The date and time of the prize distribution
function will be declared shortly, says the press note released by Kala Acadmey.
25th Konkani drama contest
Curtains go up for the silver jubilee Konkani drama competition, organised by Kala Academy, from October 5, 2000.
In all 18 institutions will vie for top honours at the 25th competition to be held at Dinanath Mangueshkar Kalamandir, Kala Academy, Panaji from 7 pm onwards.
On October 5, ‘Satya Madditta Madditta’, a play written by Dattaram Kamat Bambolkar will be presented by Shree Pandurang Prasadik Natyamandal, Vitthalapur, Sankhalim.
On October 6, Rudreshwar, Panaji will stage ‘Fatod Phool’ written by Vishnu Wagh.
Sudarshan Kalamachi, Navashi, will perform ‘Marananche Sawlent’ a drama written by Avinash Chari on October 9.
Antruj Lalitak will present ‘Sanskar’ written
by Dattaram Bambolkar, on October 10. Apurbai Chitra, Volvoi, followed by ‘Premyuddha’
written by Pundalik Naik on October 11.
On October 12, Shenoi Goenbab Seva Kendra,
Sanvordem will present ‘Zak Marle Manispann’ a drama written by Vasant
Bhagwant Sawant while on October 13, Canacona Konkani Seva Kendra, will stage
‘Etu Rukmai’ by Kamlakar Mhalshi.
Kalangan centre for performing art, Margao, will present ‘Bhonwar’ on October 16 written by Meena Kakodkar.
On October 17, Naguesh Mahalaxmi Prasadik
Natyasamaj, Bandora will present ‘Shivaji viruddha Sambhaji’ by Prakash
Thali.
On October 18, Alto Betim Junior chamber, Alto Betim will present ‘Shantata Court Chalu Ahe’ by Prashanti Talpankar.
Varadambika Kala Sangh, Ponda will stage ‘Divya Divya dipatkar’ by Pundalik Naik, on October 23.
Pundalik Naik’s ‘Surayasawat’ will be presented by Shree Guru Kala Mandal, Pijgal, Priol on October 24. Akar, Ponguinim will present ‘Randiro’ by Jayram Gaonkar on October 27.
‘Tato sawant ani bhoot jiwant’ by Dattaram
Bambolkar will be performed by Bandora Youth club, Bandora on October 28.
Gramin vikas shikshan saustha, Valpoi will
present ‘Ani Ek Buto Fullo’ by Prakash Vajrikar on November 2.
On November 3, ‘Jin Jivit’ written by
Ravindra Amonkar will be performed by Navrang Stars, Panaji. Sharada creations,
Mulgao, will present ‘Kani Eka kanyechi’ by Avinash Chari on November 6.
Kala Niketan, Majorda will present ‘Mar muth’
by Michael Gracias on November 9.

Cantaram contest at Kala Academy
Kala Academy has announced the Cantaram competition, to be held in the month of
October. The competition is scheduled on October 30 and 31, at the Dinananth
Mangueshkar Kala Mandir, Kala Academy Complex, Campal, Panaji. The application
forms in the prescribed format and other detailed information is available free
of charge, at the office of KA, during office hours.
The contest is being held with a view of promoting talent in singing, preserving
and reviving the tradition of tiatr songs and also to give incentive to new
compositions. The competition is divided in to two categories ie non-comedy and
comedy. There shall be three prizes in each category. In the non-comedy
category, the prizes are as follows: 1st prize, Rs 1,000, 2nd prize Rs 750 and
3rd prize Rs 500. The sub-divisions in this category are male (solo), female
(solo), duet, trio and quartet. In the comedy category, the prizes are as
follows: 1st prize, Rs 1,000, 2nd prize, Rs 750 and 3rd prize, Rs 500. The
sub-divisions in this category are male (solo), female (solo), duet, duo, trio
and quartet. The competition is open to all the Goan amateur artistes. There is
no entry fee for participation in the competition. In case of less than five
entries in each category, only the first prize will be awarded. Besides, Rs 100
will be paid as TA and DA to the participating artistes. The artistes shall be
allowed to send only one entry in each category and the duration of Cantaram
should not be more than 7 minutes. A common music band will be provided by Kala
Academy. The musical accompaniment provided by KA will be made available for
rehearsal, for one full day, preferably two to three days prior to the
competition.
The appreciation of Cantaram will be done on the basis of original tuned lyrics,
musical arrangement, rhythm, pitch, voice modulation, overall presentation and
audience applause.

Teen Paishancho Tiatr to be staged
on August 25 & 26, 2000
PANAJI: Rangmell, the repertory company of Kala
Academy will be staging its production, Teen
Paishancho Tiatr, at Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir
on August 25 and 26, 2000 at 6.30 pm.
This modern play in theatrical language is an
adaptation of The Three Penny Opera, a musical play by
the great German playwright Bertolt Brecht. It has
been written for the Konkani stage by Mr Vishnu Wagh
and directed by theatre personality, Mr Shridhar Kamat
Bambolkar. Mr Taranath Holegadde has composed the
music for the play.
This is the first time that a Brecht’s play has been
adapted to the Konkani stage.
Rangmell the drama repertory of Kala Academy has been
established in 1992. So far it has successfully staged
14 plays in three different languages. Teen Paishancho
Tiatr is the 15th production being produced by the
repertory. All its earlier plays have been well
received by the theatre loving audience of Goa.

Konkani Recognition Day Celebrations:
Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Mumbai, will celebrate 8th
Konkani Recongnition Day on 12th August 2000 at
6.30 p.m. at Karnataka Sangha, Mogul Lane, Matunga
Road. The programme will consist of: Presentation of
Dr. menino D'Souza Special Award, Pratibha Puroskar,
Felicitation, Folk Dances and Songs by GRAF (Goan
Review Art Foundation), Mimicry and Prize winning
one act play, 'Ekach Thapttan' by Konkan Kolakar.
