"MAD HOUSE" - A comedy Play by Dinyar Contractor

With 68 houseful shows in Bombay and elsewhere to his credit, Dinyar Contractor will be in Kala Academy here from 8.30 pm onwards on October 14th, 2000 to stage a fast packed hilarious comedy `Mad House' starring Paritosh Painter, Ritu Cambow, Jennifer, Nekta, Bhairavi, besides Contractor and others.

The Dinyar Contractor Productions and Ideas, the Entertainment Company assures the audience of rib-tickling and outrageous comedy which revolves around the bungalow purchased by `Bulbul' for rupees ten lakh. The show is being presented by Rotary Club of Panaji Mid-Town for the cause of `children at risk'. The club president Keshav Kamat and his team proposes to utilise the funds generated through the sale of tickets for welfare of needy children, by seeking co-operation of a non-government organisation.

The proceeds from the show are expected to meet medical expenses of a child in distress, educational expense of such children and donating medicines, clothes and transport facilities to NGOs.

Speaking to reporters Kamat said that the club which had earned laurels for conducting corrective surgery on polio affected children was granted an additional sum of 10,000 US dollars by the Rotary International recently. Earlier, the club had been granted US dollars 12,500 by the RI for the same project under the care of Dr Deep Bhandare of Panjim, he stated.

Club secretary Manoj Caculo has appealed to people to support the cause whole heartedly by attending the show. Speaking about his experience, Contrator who made his debute in dramatics in 1966 lamented that English plays are not viable unless they are sponsored. Complementing the Goan audience for their sense of appreciation and comedy he said the play `Mad House' is bound to please one and all.

However, he was all praises for Gujarati audience who he said gives spontaneous response to artists on stage. Contractor does not see any threat to the theatre movement from the idiot box, but he fears the cricket matches, durby, and the festive seasons, during which attendence in theatres dwindles . "The more the response from audience, better is the performance by artists" he opined. The play is produced by Paritosh Painter.
