JOHN D'SILVA.
By Wellington Dias.
Thirty seven year old John D'Silva from San Jose de Areal at first mentioned
about his Father, Custodio D'Silva being a dramatist and feels that he must have
inherited his Father's artistic talents. He also spoke about the one act play 'Jugar'
receiving a lot of awards around Goa in the eighties.
John D'Silva who together with Rosario Rodrigues are both acclaimed for their
writing abilities when queried if there was any rivalry between them, had to say
both of them get along quite well.
John D'Silva stated that he started his professional career with the tiatr "Chuklele
Roste" in 1991 and mentioned that thereafter he shifted to non-stop dramas in
1992 with "Chitrailolo Fator" and cited the reason for doing so was due to
having more flexibility with non-stop dramas and also due to the fact that
non-stop dramas have a comparatively lower budget than
tiatras.
John D'Silva who's married with 2-Kids, had to say that he wanted the standard
of the Konkanni drama to grow and believed in giving a good moral in his dramas.
Up to date listing of his dramas is as below :-
1993 - Jith.
1993 - Liplele Rupkar.
1994 - Puja.
1995 - Xinn.
1996 - Vell .
1997 - Kolle.
1998 - Ekvott.
1998 - Vatt.
1999 - Umannem.
1999 - Sokallim.
2000 - Menn.
2000 - Avessor
At the time of our interview "Avessor" was being staged in Goa and John D'Silva
obliged me with an interview after its show on 28/12/2000. He mentioned touring
the Arabian Gulf with two of his dramas including "Vell".
Another thing that John D'Silva requested me to note was, that all his dramas
from "Xinn" onwards had "two letters" repeated in their titles (i.e. nn, ll,
etc.)
John mentioned about having an audio album "Porzoll" which he released in 1998.
