JOSEPHINE DIAS
By Wellington Dias.
Josephine Dias, having her present abode at Santa
Cruz, mentioned about being around on the Konkanni stage for
almost three and a half decades and recalls of her first stage performance the
same being in her Father's tiatr entitled
"TI MOJI ZAU" and further added that over a period of 35-years She has
starred in about 300-dramas & tiatras.
Being a versatile actress, Josephine mentioned about playing different roles including that of a lead actress, comedian, etc. and said that her most memorable role was in "CHINTNA ZALI SOPNA" together with M. Boyer (wherein She played a Kunbi's role and according to her She loves playing these type of roles).
With her Father, Cassiano D'Costa being a Director, Josephine mentioned about knowing all the acclaimed and known tiatrists of the past years like Minguel Rod and others and had to say that all her 5-Brothers have been on stage one time or the other.
When queried as to which stage artistes She considered her favourites, Josephine had to say that the late C. Alvares was her favourite Director (due to his being very good in directing), M. Boyer & Felcy as her favourite Actor & actress respectively and stated that the late Jacint Vaz was the best amongst the comedians.
Josephine had to say that She enjoyed acting, as according to her this art brought joy to a lot of people's hearts and she hoped newer people come up and act on the Konkanni stage.
Now having a grown up Son, She mentioned about her late husband being very supportive of her in her career.
It seems due to her family commitments, She had decided to call it a day in acting and mentioned that it was on Jose Rod's request, that She decided to do one last Gulf tour by performing in his drama 'Tujem Naum Vhodd Zaum' and thereby retire from acting.
In Tujem Naum Vhodd Zaum, Josephine playing the role of Professor Ritin together with Comedians Domnic, Philip, Ben & Luis got a few laughs from the audience. She also sang a duo and a duet with Junior Rod in the drama.
In appreciation of her yeomen service to the Konkanni stage Josephine was presented with a honorary plaque by Roseferns on behalf of Jose Rod.
