Stars of the Konkanni Stage
: Ms. Janet Nunes e Almeida.
By Wellington Dias.
During a brief chat with Janet (married to Philip Almeida from Navelim-Mandopa)
during her recent visit to Kuwait (to act in Rafael de Majorda’s drama “Hanv
Nokho Zalom”, in April, 2002), She, at first, profiled her career, initially,
acting in School, thereafter, in Menin de Bandar’s khells and first acting
professionally in Peter de Benaulim’s drama “Ghulam” in the main role. Being
requested to play a comedy role in her forthcoming drama, Janet mentioned that
She was quite well accepted in this role, thereby,
prompting her to stick to comedy roles but stated that She can play any type
of role.
Janet had to say that the Goan people in Kuwait may not recognize her, but
stated that her voice would surely be recognized by many, on account of it
being heard on various audio tapes.
Acting in more than 20-dramas to date of various directors, which include
Menin de Bandar, Peter de Benaulim, C. D’Silva, Wilmix Sharon, Roseferns, Joe
Rose, Meena, Philip Almeida, Patrick Dourado, Mario de Vasco, etc., Janet
singled out her performance in Roseferns’ drama “Gundda” as her best, due to
it being her maiden performance in a comedy role and also being well accepted
by the audience in the same.
She mentioned about her acting at Kala Academy’s tiatr competition and
presently
acting in Mario de Vasco’s
drama “Hanv Tuka Bhas Dita”.
About her future plans, She mentioned about wanting to blend her own path to
success and someday emulate her idol, Platilda Dias.
