COMEDIAN AGOSTINHO
By Wellington Dias
It was on 2nd December, 2000 about three and half kilometres above the Arabian Sea on my flight back home to GOA, that I had the pleasure to meet Agostinho Temudo when he, along with Mrs. Platilda Dias and Comedian Domnic were returning to Goa from Kuwait after acting in Mario de Majorda's drama "Anvddo".
The 35-year old Comedian Agostinho hailing from Dongrim, Navelim married to Jasmine (who was with him on the flight, as well) it seems started acting in 1988 with his first drama being "Tujea Hatant" directed by Lino from San Jose de Areal.
And from that time onwards Agostinho mentioned about acting in about 17-dramas so far, always in comedy roles and had to say that there is no possibility of him playing character or serious roles.
Agostinho who works at the Rosary College at Navelim considers his acting talents as a God given gift and recalled about his parents specially his Mother not wanting him to go into acting as they wanted him to concenterate on his studies but it seems he was not able to complete his matriculation. But he emphasized that education is very important.
At the time of our tete-a-tete, Agostinho's own and first production "SUSEG" was being staged in Goa which he admitted with pride as doing quite well and expected that more than 50-shows of the same would be staged. After watching the drama, could see why Agostinho was so confident and given the fact that "SUSEG" was Agostinho's maiden production it was indeed a very good effort on his part, quite a good drama and was being well accepted by the audience.
When queried about his other co-stars, Agostinho mentioned that Roseferns was his favourite director because of his timings, i.e. not leaving any gaps in between scenes.
He considered comedian Jesus from Chinchinim as his favourite actor due to his having a natural flair for comedy and acting. Sylvester Vaz and Antonette de Calangute as his favourite actor & actress respectively and when queried as to which of the dramas he acted in, were his favourite, mentioned that he weighed all of them in the same perspective.
Agostinho had to say that more comedians should come on stage as there was a dearth of comedians at present. Agostinho also mentioned that Prince Jacob alongwith with Comedian Domnic were his best friends.
On a parting note Agostinho had to say that that the people should support the Konkanni stage and keep the Konkanni drama & stage alive.
