ANTHONY SAN.
By Wellington Dias.

Anthony Fernandes born on 13th June, 1956 to Sebastian (a violonists & trombonist) and Christalin Fernandes had to say that
even though his family was into music he did not get an opportunity to study music while in School and could only do so later
on.

Anthony who goes by the stage name of ANTHONY SAN (due to his being from Sanvordem), mentioned that he started singing at around 6 or 7 years of age in School and it seems Alfred Rose's gramophone records which he used to listen to greatly inspired him to sing.

ANTHONY SAN's ACTING CAREER :

Anthony's professional career in acting started in 1975 when at around 19 years of age he sang in Remy Colaco's tiatr "Don Kallzam" and mentioned about getting the best singer award from the Goa Cultural & Social Centre (in 1978) and also from Kala Academy (in 1979).

Mentioned releasing his first album entitled 'Konkanni Hits' in 1980 in which his Brother & Sister sang, with Emiliano de Cruz
providing the music and furhter mentioned about singing (around 4-songs) for the Konkanni film 'Girestkai'.

It seems he also acted in 3-plays (English Opera) namely "Princess Ida" by the late Fr. Lourdino Barretto, "Gypsy Love" & "La Belle Helen" by Fr. Caitan Xavier.

Anthony San mentioned acting in TIATRA's of M. Boyer, C. Alvares, Jacint Vaz, Alfred Rose, Prem Kumar, Remy Colaco, Alfred Rose, etc. and in NON-STOP DRAMAS of Patrick Dourado, Rosario Rodrigues, Roseferns, Prince Jacob & others.

Spoke on his playing the lead role & doing playback singing in the film "Amchi Chuk" (which is yet to be released due to financial problems) and further mentioned about acting in the video films "Zababdari" and 'Moriad".

Talking about his own dramas, recalled about his first drama "Dharvontto" released in 1984 followed by "Falleam Euchona',
"Ekuch Ghor", "Moddko", "Paktte", 'Dudu Khuxalkai Nuim", "Novem Jivit" and "Sott" (in 2000).

Amongst the above had to say that "Ekuch Ghor" did well commercially while his favourites were "Dharvonto", "Novem Jivit" and "Sott" due to their good scripts.

Graduating in Commerce, Anthony mentioned about joining the Dena Bank in 1978 at Aldona and further added that he took a transfer to Bombay (for 2-years) so that his hindi could be fluent. He remembers doing chorus singing and jingles (one of which was for Amul Butter) and further added that he answered a singing exam for Cine Singers and it seems out of 82-singers, 12 of them were shortlisted with him being one of them.

Talking about his family, married to Juliet from Chorao, they have two kids with both of them Daughter Clarissa (in her mid teens) and 14-year old Son, Clifton playing the keyboards with notes & also singing.

Anthony San also spoke about his staging a musical show entitled "Goenkaranchem Sukh" with professional artistes on 25th Jan., 2001 just prior to his flying to Kuwait for KHK's musical show and it was during this time (at the end of Jan., 2001) we had our tete-a-tete.

When queried on his future plans said he wanted to form his own band so that his kids could be into music and also mentioned of his plans of releasing a hindi album done Goan style with original tunes at the end of 2001.
