Mrinal Raikar and Sayuli Vinaykumar Pai Raikar from Goa excelled in the National Swimming Championship organised at Uttar Pradesh, Bareli which began on June 18, 2000. In the Boys Group II Mrinal bagged a gold medal in high board diving while Sayuli in girls group III took away a bronze medal. This is the first time that Goa won a gold medal.
