Camilo Gonsalves nets winner for Goa XI

A fine goalkeeping by former international goalkeeper (and Arjuna
Award Winner Brahmanand Sankwalkar) and excellent goal by Camilo
Gonsalves helped Goa XI to down UAE Goans by a solitary goal in
the inaugural match of the Goan Soccer World Cup football tournament
organised by Goans International and played at Duler grounds, Mapusa.

With this victory Goa have collected three points. The all
important goal was scored by Camilo Gonsalves in the 50th minute
of the match.

Much was expected from the Goan XI but their game did not rise to
great expectations as UAE Goans held a upper hand in terms of
exchanges with the medio Benny D'Costa, a former Sesa Goa player
who led Maharashtra for the Santosh Trophy anf former Salgoacar
player Anthony Travasso with the help of other young strikers
Joseph Fernandes and Peter Fernandes were able to take the ball to
the goalmouth regurlarly but the excellent goalkeeping by
Brahmanand let them down. Brahmanand came to Goa XI's rescue twice
when he stopped Peter Fernandes and Joseph Fernandes powerful tries
by diving to his right.

Johnny Pereira, Salvador Fernandes took care of the attacks often
single handedly and succeeded in keeping at bay the UAE strikers.

Goa could have taken the early lead in the 6th minute when Johnny
initiated a move from the left flank and pass the ball to Camilo
whose header was cleared on the goalline by UAE defender Narendra
Gaad.

The all important goal came in the 50th minute when Camilo from
the centre outwitted a couple of defenders and took powerful right
footer which beat the goalkeeper Albino Pereira.

Referee Babu Arolkar flashed yellow card to Salvador Fernandes for
rough play.

Earlier Goa Football Association President, Joaquim Alemao declared
the tournament opened. GFA secretary, Agnelo Alcaosaos (ex Vice
President of Kuwait India Football Federation-Kuwait), Alberto
Colaco, Henry Britto, Dr Bonny Pereira, vice chairman of Goa
