ACDC Summer League 2000 - Kuwait Times By Michelle Fe Santiago
Pirelli and Beann Wreckers retain top spot

Kuwait: The Pirelli Cables and Systems team and the Beann Wreckers despite differing results maintained their lead under groups I and II respectively on the third week of play in the ACDC Summer League 2000 on Friday at the Kuwait Sea Sports Club in Salmiya.

Pirelli holding to its number one spot easily outbowled Equate with 18-6 points as games become more consistent in the 170 and 180 area with Mike Garcia and Jay-R Angeles making 212 and 206. The difference registered to 12 pins overall as Pirelli gathered margins of two games to one and eleven singles to four. The two single games of Cliff Samples of Equate slid to the fifth notch.

Keeping up on toes with Pirelli, Trico International pulled off a good performance over the Just For Fun (JFF) as they held on to their second place under group I. Trico's victory was second place under group I. Trico's victory was mainly due to the good scoring of Keglers Bert Pantanilla and Tito Tamayo who registered with 232 and 247 respectively. JFF winning game number two and seven single game points of Bill Goff's 180, above average play of Estela Goff, Ed Leviste and Ted Floresca's 209 in game three did not daunt Trico from winning thus placing JFF in fourth spot.

Meanwhile Al-Maidan Dental Clinic out powered Kickers 19-5 as they lag behind Trico. Al-Maidan's Caloy Garay gave an opening Salvo 224 with wins in all team games as they kicked out the Kickers by 312 pins. Faie Reyel and Tony Bustria with 180 averages helped their team to third place. The Kickers struggled due to the absence of some team members as Tony Balin's two games in 180's back to back with 192 of Ariel Abundo did not prevent the from sliding to the last spot in group I. The Bombay Strikers unexpectedly overturned the Beann Wreckers with 15.5-8.5 points as the leading team stayed confident holding a distinct advantage in handicap and above average plays in group II. The Beann Wreckers shelled out some high scoring games but these were not enough as the teams traded games one and two as the third powered the Bombay Strikers to a 35 pin win placing them on the fourth slot. The Bombay Strikers enjoyed an overall bonus of three points by only 20 pins in the end. Colin Costa's handicap games 193 and Uly Menezes 180 provided a boost to the team despite the high pinning games of Mars Balisi 198, Mar Evangelista 221 and Toto Abear 193 of the Beann Wreckers.

A mixtures of high and low games saw a close fight between Tutti Frutti and Fedex teams as the match ended up with only 9 pin difference going into game three. The Tutti Frutti emerged victorious over Fedex 15-9 points as they gained a comfortable 54 pin win in  game three. For Fedex, playing couple Romy and Kate Ramirez set the ball rolling to win their team in game one. The winning was reversed in game two by a similar margin from start to finish. Romy's 202 in game on was matched up by Tutti Frutti's Nasha King 195 and three singles points added with Hassan Lababidi's 193 sealed the team's victory. Tutti Frutti and Fedex placed second and third respectively in the team standings. The Last Minute Team and Tsamba Team had a close match-up as they vie for the fifth and sixth spots respectively. The Last Minute had the best of their play as they garnered 10 of the available 15 singles game points and also 2 of the team games beating Tsamba 17-7 points. Danny Doctor and Tony Zulueta with games in the 190 and 200 bracket earned valuable points for Last Minute. Tsamba player Al Bautista gave a remarkable performance with his three singles game points out of three capped by a scratch series of 604 rendering him with handicap, the high tournament series of 676.

The Al-Maidan team among all the competing teams got the team high game scratch 986, team high series scratch 2742, team high game with handicap 1003 and team high series with handicap 2799. Tony Bustria of Al-Maidan in the men's division had the high game scratch 253, high game with handicap 253 and high series scratch 650.
