Mr. Alberto L. A. Barreto.
Music Director & Founder of Goa Choral Symphony.

For Alberto, recognition in music didn't come easy. Born in Goa in the
village of St. Cruz, he started his music lessons studying for his
priesthood in the seminary. He graduated from the St. Xavier's College,
Mapusa in philosophy and then did 3 years of Theology. On giving up his
plans to become a priest, he devoted his time and energy to music, which was
always his first love.
Way back in the 1980's, he formed a Choral group which used to participate
in All Goa Carol and Mando singing competitions winning a number of prizes
for several years. His fondness for the Spanish guitar let him to achieve
the 'Licentiate, Performer (L.T.C.L) of Trinity College of Music, London. He
has the distinction of being the only guitarist all over India to attain
such a diploma for the last 15 years. He is also teaching the Spanish guitar
in Kala Academy, Panjim since 1991. Last year, he was invited by Fundacao
Oriente to attend an International Summer Course for 'Early Music' at Tomar,
Portugal.
Inspired by his friends and well wishers, he founded the choral group " The
Goa Choral Symphony " in the year 1997, with an intention to revive and
promote Western and Goan Classical music. The Goa Choral Symphony under the
music direction of Alberto put up 2 major concerts - Vande Mataram in 1997
and My Creation in 1998 which comprises of western, Indian, Portuguese and
Goan classical music. They have also performed in Allahabad and as guest
performances in Goa.
At Present, Alberto is working on his 3rd Major Concert - The Sounds of
Music, which is scheduled shortly.
