Konkani Folk Music Group formed in Perth,
Western Australia.
Konkani Folk Song and Dance Group under the musical direction of Sardar Correia."
The name "OZ-GOA-MOG stands for our land of OZ, GOA for Goans of
Australia, And MOG means love in Konkani and stands for Musicians of Goa who
seek to express their love of their land of origin and love for the people in
their land of adoption by a presentation of Konkani Folk songs and Dances. These
songs and dances span 500 years of our social history from the 12th century to
the 21st. They also seek to share their multilingual approach to Melody and
Harmony, and Rhythm in their eclecticism. According to Prof. Michael Martins
"The Mando is the finest of Goa's cultural creations and a synthesis of the
manifold types of Goan Song. A knowledge of it gives one a clear view of a
millennial tradition now languishing among Goa's hills in the Konkan strip of
India's west coast and also awakens one to an awareness of a vaster but equally
evanescent body of song in the great subcontinent beyond."
This presentation, of Guitars (Sardar Correia, Bernard De Sa, & Ashley
Almeida), The Violins (William Remedios & Albert Da Cruz), and the
Piano (Lorraine Moniz & Muriel MacMarshall) together with the Traditional
Dancers (Glynis Menezes, Robin Eliezer,& Constance Fernandes) represent the
Sanskrit and Latin components of our Musical Heritage. The singers are
representation by Helen Imlay, Hilda Remedios, Maureen Rodrigues, Nancy Eliezer,
Brenda Picardo, Theresa Nazareth, Tina Fernandes, Norma D'Souza, Marilyn Lobo,
Shannen Moniz and Sheldon Moniz, Tony D'Souza, Roy Picardo, Leonard Correia, who
seek to share the great song wealth of the microcosmic India that is the Konkan
as an expression of our contribution to Multiculturalism.
We were honoured to have been asked to take part in the WORLD MUSIC GIG 2000
