JOSE ROD CUTS KONKANI CD 'ADEUS'
Review by Wellington Dias
Jose Rod who till date has directed a number of non-stop dramas besides acting in them one of which being "MAULI" which did more than 200-shows, on the occasion of GOA-DAY '97 released his fifth Konkani album.
It must have been an ecstastic moment for Jose Rod when all the Goan Club Presidents took a hand at unwinding the ribbon around the CD thereby officially marking release of the same. He got a standing ovation from his fans and the audience.
The CD entitled "ADEUS" consists of 12 - tracks on it with Jose Rod singing 6 of the singles, Antonnete Mendes two of them, comedians Domnic and Philip one apiece and the two duets have been sung by the husband and wife combination of Jose Rod and Judy.
A brief review of
"Adeus" is as follows :-
In 'BHAVARATH' Jose Rod portrays a village scene when Our Lady does rounds of homes in a Goan Village.
'XIRAP' (Sung by Jose Rod) brings to light a heartless mothers gruesome act wherein she drowns her 2 kids so as to enable her to get married again.
'ZALL' (Sung by Jose Rod) recounts a tale of a Goan teenager who falls in a trap i.e after befriending a German girl on a brief sojourn to India, he flirts with her and is hit by a bombshell when she writes to him from Germany after her return stating that she had AIDS, a fact which she dubiously withheld from the boy.
In 'VHODDIL' Jose Rod sings about the hypocrisy of a son who puts up a show of grief upon his father's death while he was responsible in driving his father to homelessness and living on alms during his living days.
In 'PRACHIT' (Penance) Jose Rod tells about how a friend's guilty conscience haunts him after he abandoned his best pal who drowned when they went swimming.
In 'GULF' Jose Rod portrays the positive and negative aspects working in the Gulf has had on Goan People's lives. Antonette Mendes in 'GHATT' rants about a jilted lovers heart while in 'BAILLEO' she sings about the role played by women in modern day society and in the song also highlights the gossiping ways which they are unable to overcome inspite of making strides in today's society.
Comedians Domnic and Philip lend a humourous punch to 'ADEUS' with their songs 'KALLO' and 'DUKOR' respectively.
The 2 duets : In
'SIRVIDOR' Judy and Jose Rod highlight a Mother's
suffering on how she is made to slog in her own son's home as their maid
while in 'Adeus' both of them typify a commonly enacted scene in many a Goan
household wherein soon after marriage the husband has to leave his beloved
beloved wife when he has to rejoin his work duties abroad.
On the whole 'Adeus' is worth a hear with some pleasant tunes and most of the songs topic are based on true happenings.
The Music for the CD is composed and arranged by none other than CHRIS PERRY and the CD & tapes are of good quality.
