Borkar, Gawas bag Sahitya Akademi Award /

PANAJI: Reputed Konkani poet, Madhav Borkar has bagged the Sahitya Akademi Award
for his collection of poems ‘Iomon’ while Rajan Gawas has been awarded the prize
in Marathi for his novel ‘Tankot’. The prize which carries a cash award of Rs
25,000 and a citation which will be awarded on 19 February, 2002 in a special
prize distribution ceremony in New Delhi. Borkar has been penning poetry for
three decades and his work has been published in six books -‘Chonvor’, ‘Votacheo
Savlleo’, ‘Uzvaddacho Rukh’, ‘Porzollachem Dar’ and ‘Iomon’. Earlier, he had
been presented the state award by Goa Kala Academy for his books ‘Votacheo
Savlleo’ and ‘Porzollachem Dar’. Borkar also received the T M A Pai Foundation
prize for 2000. He has been working in All India Radio since 1984 and is at
present working as assistant station director. He has presented papers at
various literary conferences.
