Day 2000 Celebrated in Kuwait

Goa Day Celebrated in
Kuwait
Goans in Kuwait recently celebrated with great pomp and festivity the much
awaited "Goa Day 2000" at the Indian Arts Circle. The mega
event, which attracted people from different walks of life, was organised
by the Goan Welfare Society (GWS) in affiliation with other Goan clubs and
organisations in Kuwait. The main attraction of the event was the "Amadores
de Musica" trio of Ressano Noronha, Lino D'Mello and Arthur Rodrigues,
specially flown from Goa, courtesy the Indian Airlines. Food stalls put up
by various organisation offered traditional Goan delicacies like Sorpotel,
Xacuti, Sannas and many more. United Friends Club won the Best Decorated
Stall award. GWS President Tony Cordeiro in his speech acknowledged the
efforts of all the clubs and organisations responsible for making "Goa
Day 2000" a grand success. The chief guests for the sixth Goa Day
event were the President of All India Catholic Union (AICU) Dr Emilia
Menezes and the AICU General Secretary Ines Cotta Carvalho.
Bureaucrats
Snub CM, Editors and Scribes
It was the function organised by the Department of Information and
Publicity on National Press Day, where the chief minister Manohar Parrikar
was the chief guest and Union minister Sripad Naik presided. The function
had the Editor's Guild and the Goa Union of Journalists as co-hosts. A
seminar on Role of Media: Preparing People to Cope with Disaster was to
have been addressed among others by government bureaucrats Sanjeev Khirwar,
Collector North Goa and PK John, the fire service chief. Both failed to
turn up, and deputed instead their deputies. G P Naik, deputy collector
North excused Khirwar saying he had a pre-engagement. If so, how did
Khirwar agree to be present at the seminar? John was out of station
representing the State at another seminar. If the bureaucrats can snub the
chief minister, a union minister, editors and journalists, what about mere
mortals who approach them in times of disaster?
