GOAN
HERITAGE – A NITE OF FASCINATION

Club.9 organized its first ever program on a fascinating magnitude at the
Crowne Plaza Hotel on 27 November 2003. The chock-a-block Andalus Ballroom
wore a festive look with Goan decoration like ‘touleo’, ‘supam’, ‘nivnim’, ‘douleh’,
‘mollaam’ etc. all beautifully dangling from the central dome.
The
multi-national guests exchanged greetings while faces beamed with infectious
smiles. The Heritage Nite had a distinctive Goan touch that reminisced
nostalgic memories of beautiful Goa, to the delight of Goenkar guests. A
cultural duo of Ms. Fortune and Clive Sequira, flown from Goa were excellently
assisted by local dancers to put in scintillating
performances choreographed by Ms.Carmen Meneses. The ‘Taria’, ‘Kotifugdi’ and,
‘Corridinho’ dances in traditional attire, to the sound of Goan music drew
thunderous applause fro the celebratory guests. Kuwait’s popular City Limits
opened the program in musical style with Ryan Fernandes at his best, in
vocals. But, the evening undeniably belonged to India’s
premier band, ‘Aqua Flow’ managed by Tony Dias who graced the occasion as a
special guest. The nightingale Geetanjali More and gyrating Rohan Sequeira
sent the guests in musical ecstasy, swinging and swaying to the rhythm.
Aqua
Flow, set the pulse racing with ballroom, hip-hop, pop, reggae, rock, rap and
bhangra. As the Heritage Nite was organized in aid of the mentally challenged
children at ‘Daddy’s Home’ in Goa, an audio-visual presentation of Daddy’s
Home was remarkably illustrated during the program. Albano Pinto, President of
Club.9 welcomed the Chief Guest, K.J.S. Sodhi,
Charge d’Affaires at the Indian Embassy and also Mr. Nouri Al-Nouri, a
prominent businessman who was the Guest of Honor. Mr. Sodhi congratulated
Club.9 and, wished all success for altruistic project. Mr.Al-Nouri also lauded
the charitable efforts of Club.9. A colorful souvenir was released at the
hands of Mr. Sodhi while, Mr. Al-Nouri released a Konkani VCD produced by the
superstar of Konkani stage, Jose Rod. Jose Rod bequeathed the proceeds from
the sale of VCD in the hall, to Daddy’s Home. Aldrin Meneses, Vice-President
of the Club.9 proposed a vote of thanks.
There was a galore of gifts and shower of prizes that included TV sets, airline tickets, gold jewelery, music systems, cameras, watches, brand sunglasses, cell phones etc. The highlight of the evening was the Heritage Special competition limited only to Waltz, Cha-Cha-Cha, Foxtrot, judged by Ms.Julie Dias, Ms.Fortune Sequeira and Clive Sequeira. (All guest visitors from Goa).
The first prize in the Heritage Special was won by Ms.
Petula and Edwin while, Ms. Sally and Clifford took the second prize and Ms.
Lucy and Joe, the third prize. Ms. Lana D’Mello and Floyd Paes superbly
controlled the wavelengths with excellent coordination. The Heritage program
was well organized living up to the pre-occasion media publicity of, “a truly
Goan event unlike any other event” that too, with authentic Goan cuisine in
the ambiance of the 5 star Crowne Plaze Hotel
Synopsis
On 17 January 2003, a group of nine Goans with good connections in social and
cultural circles in Kuwait, established a new organization called "CLUB.9".
The word "Club" stands for "Care, Love for Underpriviledged Born" and the
figure "9" stands for the nine persons who formed the association.
Having established the Club.9, the nine members decided to set forth the "Main
Purpose" and having weighed various pros and cons, the nine members concluded
that the main prupose would be:
"To assist wholeheartedly and without prejudice to caste, creed, gender and,
religion the mentally challenged children in the Indian State of Goa".
Having set forth the main purpose of the Club.9, the nine members decided to
lay down the "Aims and Objectives" in order to fulfill the main purpose of
implementing the following, in letter and spirit:
a.
All the members of Club.9
agreed to have a formal 'Constitution" as a Rule Book by which all future
actions of the Club.9 would be governed and guided. And a constitution was
drafted and ratified and finally adopted.
Further, in view of the ever-changing situation in the region, the nine
members came to a conclusion that the Club.9 had to be registered with the
Indian Embassy in Kuwait. Subsequently an application for the registration of
Club.9 was made to the Indian Embassy with the required documentation on 30
April 2003. The Embassy was kind enough to accord a formal recognition and
registration of Club.9 on 8 May 2003.
The members of Club.9 then decided to generate funds for the cause of the
mentally challenged children as per the Main Purpose of the Club.9 and it was
agreed to have a "Goan Heritage Program' on 27 November 2003, at the 5-star
Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The Goan Heritage Program will consist of a journey back to the nostalgic
heritage of Goa, in which the guests will be able to see the traditional and
ethnic dances of Goa, specially, Dehkni, Corridinho, Kotifughdi, Mando,
Dulpods, etc.
Moreover, it was decided to specially fly in a cultural troupe from Goa to
project an aura of authenticity to the ethnicity and traditional originality
to the program.
Further, it was deiced to blend ethnicity, with modernity and to provide such
an ambience, the famed 'Aqua Flow" from Mumbai would perform at the Goan
Heritage Program. Aqua Flow are famous for the professionalism in music and
also have the distinction of performing opening musical acts for mega concerts
by world renowned: Deep Purple, Bryan Adams, Whigfield, Shaggy and the
Vengaboys, with famous western groups. And with Kuwait's "City Limits" at
their musical best, all the guests are going to have a wonderful time, in
fact, an enthralling evening of delightful entertainment. The organizers have
even arranged to have authentic Goan cuisine to experience the joy, the
feeling, the temptation. In fact, a small but beautiful part of India in the
very heart of Kuwait, that's Goa for you.
If that's enough, then visit our site as the count down begins to the truly
Goan event unlike any other event…..
